Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor Review
Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor is a fitness watch that tracks your activities extremely accurately. Whether you are out on the golf course or swimming in an indoor pool, you can generate accurate data that can be analyzed on your smartphone. The design of this watch is still an area of improvement, but its long battery life, the easy-to-access menu on the not-so-good touchscreen and an excellent price to value ratio makes this an excellent GPS watch to buy.
Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor is a top of the line GPS watch and Heart Rate monitor that is Garmin’s second entry in this segment. The watch is not good looking but is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and is one of the best when it comes to accurate tracking of activities. Garmin Vivoactive HR vs Fitbit Surge is always a difficult decision because both these devices are GPS-enabled and lie somewhere between the basic fitness watches and full-fledged smartwatches. Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor uses both GPS and accelerometer for tracking and this means it can take full charge of your fitness regime.
Is it waterproof ?
Garmin-Vivoactive-HRM lets you swim and shower while wearing it. The 5ATM reading on the watch clearly specifies that it is waterproof up to 50 metres.
Is it accurate ?
Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor does an excellent job in accurately tracking your runs and jogs and is far better than some of the other GPS watches. It can also accurately track your location and doesn't send you all over the place. Exercise tracking on this watch is accurate and also simple - after pressing the right button, you need to tap on the exercise you are getting into and again press the right button - the watch will do its tracking. It is also compatible with iOS and Android and lets you keep track of all your data.
Does it work indoors ?
Garmin Vivoactive + Heart Rate Monitor works indoors - it can track indoor cycling, rowing and running without any hassle. There is a separate mode for indoor gym work, but you need an additional sensor to make it work. This device can easily hook up with blood oxygen and heart rate sensors but doesn't have a heart rate sensor integrated. If you are using an indoor pool for swimming, the tracking is done through an accelerometer and not GPS. The accelerometer also pauses when you turn at the end of a lap.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
The Garmin Vivoactive HR release date was February 2016 and it’s picked up quite some popularity since then. Garmin-Vivoactive-HRM has real substance. It works on a platform that Garmin knows about and can control. It is excellent in tracking your activities and presents you enough data for analysis. The paper-thin design and the well-done band ensure that you are not uncomfortable wearing it for long periods of time. It may not be an Apple Watch, but it sure gives you enough value for money.
