Garmin Vivosmart 4 Review

The 3-Minute Garmin Vivosmart 4 Review

Garmin’s New Fitness Accessory

By Graeme Messina | October 6, 2018

The Specifics:

Features & Design: 3/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life: 5/5

The Best:

The Garmin Vivosmart 4 is a bare bones fitness watch that offers its users a simple device that measures fitness activity throughout the day. This watch differentiates itself from its competitors by giving you a long lasting battery that needs no charging for a very long time. How long? For a year or more! There are also changeable straps and a color screen that we really liked.

The Bugs:

If you are a tech lover that enjoys playing with your fitness gadgets, then this might not be the watch for you. It is able to track your progress and monitor your health stats, and can even synchronize with your computer to upload your stats. For those that want to be able to integrate their watch into the smart phone like the Samsung Gear or Apple Watch, then those would be better options for you.

Is it for you?

This is the fitness watch for you if you are heavily involved in exercise such as running, swimming, hiking, or anything else that requires you to be active.

Meet the Garmin Vivosmart 4

This activity tracker is always on, and customizable with a color screen and a battery that does not need charging. It lets you track your steps, measure your distance travelled, and how many calories you have burned. It also has a sleep monitor and a daily step goal alert that tells you when you have reached your daily target. It is water proof, so you never need to worry about how safe it is for swimming or showering.

What we like

Synchronizing your stats is really important if you are tracking your progress online and on a computer, Garmin has their Garmin Connect System that allows your Vivosmart 4 to do just that.

Garmin has an intelligent system that detects what type of activity you are performing, and it automatically classifies it so that the data can be sent back to the Garmin Connect system. This movement recognition system is called Garmin Move IQ, and it simplifies your training and tracking process by a great deal.

Perhaps the best part about this device is the fact that the battery lasts and lasts, so you don’t have to remember to carry a charger with you when you are planning on staying away from home.

What we don’t like

Perhaps the only downside of this watch is the fact that it is so simple, which is a plus for some people, but it won’t be right for everyone. The display is also not the biggest out there, although it is bright enough. As far as fitness trackers go, this is a great looking device, and it is sure to sit well in a workout environment, but it does lack versatility in its styling, making it look a little out of place depending on your social settings.

Should you buy it?

If you are sick of charging your fitness band every couple of days, then this could be a viable choice for you. There is a lot to like about this device, from its rugged design, to its intelligent step and movement tracking. The small screen and limited aesthetic appeal might deter some people, so make sure you know where you’ll be using this before you take the plunge.

  • The Good :
Counts steps and Strokes, Battery Life is a Plus
  • The Bad :
    Small Screen, Limited Aesthetic Appeal
