Google Pixel 3 Review
The 3-Minute Google Pixel 3 Review
Pixel 3 Has Landed
By Graeme Messina | November 08, 2018
The Specifics:
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Battery Life 4/5
The Best:
The screen on the Pixel 3 is one of the selling points of this smart phone, measuring in at around 5.5 inches. The screen is also an OLED that is FHD+ and is flexible. The viewing quality is really good, thanks to its 443 ppi density. The contrast ratio gives the viewer 16.77 million colors as well as a 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio.
The Bugs:
Most people have complained about the lack of storage options that this model comes with, but this may or may not be a problem for you. The battery life is also nothing to write home about, and Google could have thought that through a little more thoroughly.
Is it for you?
If you like Android phones and need to have the most bleeding edge version of the Android OS, then the Pixel 3 is a phone that ticks both of those boxes. Whether it has done enough to differentiate itself from previous versions of this phone is debatable, though.
Meet the Google Pixel 3
This is a flagship device from tech giant Google, and it doesn’t disappoint. The CPU is in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, and it has 4GB of RAM. This is enough to run even the most demanding Android applications and gives the device a snappy feeling performance when it is being run. There is no Micro SD slot though, which could be a deal breaker for anyone considering a new phone with better capacity for movies and music.
What we like
Build quality is up to standard, and the device feels like a smart flagship device. Google has sweetened the deal by including free cloud storage until 2022, and by cloud storage, they mean unlimited. That is an awful lot of data in the cloud for your photo and video collections.
There is wireless charging available, thanks to the glass back that allows for the power transfer to happen seamlessly, and to that end, there is an extra Pixel Stand that allows charging to occur at 10W. This is around half the speed of regular charging, but it is certainly more convenient than plugging in to charge your phone.
Some of the best features are in the software though, with Google pushing ahead with its assistant application, which can now screen calls and even ask callers questions prior to you answering.
What we don’t like
The lack of storage is not such a massive downside to this device, it would have been better if the SD card slot was included, but this is made up for in large part by Google’s unlimited storage offer. There is no headphone jack, which means that you will need to go wireless, or use a USB C adapter. The battery feels a little on the small side too, at 2915mAh.
Should you buy it?
There are many other phones out on the market to choose from, so, is going with the Google Pixel 3 the best choice? It is debatable, but from a hardware perspective alone it is worth considering. It has some of the best specifications in the RAM and CPU departments, and the styling, while not entirely different from the Pixel 2, still looks really good. Overall, this is a worthy flagship device with decent camera.
