Features & Design: 4.5/5 ● Performance: 4.5/5 ● Value: 5/5 ● Battery: 4.5/5
GoPro set the worlds of action sports and videography, as well as photography, on fire some years back when they first launched their lightweight, compact action cameras. The good news is that GoPro are still leading the pack when it comes to design and innovation, and the Hero 6 is a fitting tribute to that fact.
Some might criticize the lack of aesthetic change between the Hero 5 and the Hero 6, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Some users have complained about occasional charging issues, but this seems to be in the minority of people that have purchased one of these units.
Is it for you?
Whether you are a casual action sports enthusiast, or a professional, this camera will give you the best results out there for this price range. It might be a bit overkill for non-action sports people, however, as there are a lot of features on board.
Meet the GoPro Hero 6
While on the surface things might not have changed much for the GoPro Hero 6, the insides are where the evolution has continued from the previous generation. The Hero 6 is capable of capturing 4K video at a staggering 60FPS, while 1080p will get you an unreal 240FPS of slow motion goodness. The Hero 5 wasn’t even close to these stats, so there is definitely a hug improvement that has occurred since the Hero 5’s launch.
What we like
The small size of the GoPro has always been one of its major selling points amount Extreme sports enthusiasts. Its water proof capabilities, coupled with its rugged design and iconic looks made it an overnight success. So stellar was this initial success that we still see droves of manufacturers copying the GoPro to this day.
The image quality is really good, as is expected, and the new image stabilisation is impressive. There is a new touch zoom feature that makes zooming in on the action that much easier, and the battery life is still more than adequate for a single outing with this device.
What we don’t like
As far as action cameras go, this is a solid choice, so there isn’t too much that can be said about the products shortcomings. In fact, some people might complain that it is too feature rich for the price point, making it a wasted itme on the less adventurous who can afford the camera anyway.
Some genuine negatives are that the charger is sometimes intermittent, leading to less than amazing battery life. This can be overcome with additional battery packs however, so it is by no means a deal breaker. Some people may be tired of the design of this model, but we quite like it.
Should you buy it?
If you enjoy getting out into the wild on a bike or hitting the surf, this camera is fit for purpose. Be prepared to capture footage like you never thought possible, thanks to the improved electronics and features that now ship with the Hero 6. There are many great things to like about the latest GoPro Hero 6, from its insane 60FPS 4K resolutions, to its jaw dropping 1080p slow motion, which is sure to capture amazing moments on your adventures.
