Intel Core I7-5930K Review
The Intel Core i7-5930K is a powerful processor destined not just for gaming enthusiasts, but also for individuals interested in multimedia processing which requires high amounts of power. The CPU is already a powerhouse, but when it comes to high-end processors, there’s always more to squeeze out of them without any issues at all. For example, the current CPU has a base clock speed of 3.5GHz but overclocking is possible. The process is attained with a fairly low effort and depending on the specs of your computer, especially in terms of power and cooling, you can get the i7-5930K to 4.3GHz without instability issues. Water cooling would be recommended for higher clock speeds and even for the standard one if you want a truly cool CPU.
This CPU is surely not designed for average use and you should take note of this before you decide on making a purchase. If you are an individual that really needs such high amounts of computational power, though, this is the thing you need. The 6 cores available inside the Intel Core i7-5930K, together with the base clock speed of 3.5GHz are going to stay unused if you are not a heavy multi-tasker or if you don’t do something that really takes the CPU to full load. On the other hand, a lot of programs running constantly on your PC can find a reliever in this CPU. Moreover, video encoding and other CPU-dependent tasks are performed with ease thanks to this processor.
When it comes to gaming, this processor should be able to flawlessly run just about everything out there, but of course, when we talk about games, we need to talk about the whole PC. Your Intel Core i7-5930K won’t do too much justice on its own so you might want to pair it with a good quality video card and a decent amount of RAM memory.
A thing that some might find a downside is that it requires you to pair it with DDR4 RAM memory and this might be a bit too expensive at the moment. The CPU is able to work with up to 64 GB of RAM memory, more than enough, even for memory-dependent tasks. The frequencies you should look for when choosing a RAM memory should be 1300, 1600 and 2133 MHz.
Besides the overclocking features you can tinker on your own, you also have access to a Turbo mode for the Intel Core i7-5930K. This one, however, is only able to take the CPU’s clock speed up to 3.7GHz. Be advised, as you will need your own cooler for the CPU, but on the other hand, you won’t have to try all sorts of tricks in order to unlock the processor. The 22nm technology of the Haswell-E generation proves that improvements can always be done to a CPU line and the 5930K is just another proof of this fact. You will surely benefit from this powerhouse if you truly need this amount of power, but measure twice and cut once.
