Jawbone UP3 Review
Jawbone Up3 is one of the best fitness trackers around and comes to you with a range of features including heart rate sensors, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, tri-axis accelerometer and up to 7 days of battery life. Jawbone wanted to launch the device as a waterproof device but has not really succeeded. Other than that, the company has done a lot of improvements on the design and the data accuracy is quite good. The clasp on the strap does feel difficult to put on. The smart coach feature is one of the best features of this fitness tracker. There is also a wide range of third-party apps that are compatible with this tracker. And it also works with a select range of Android and iOS smartphones.
In the domain of wrist-worn fitness trackers, data accuracy has always been an issue. Jawbone Up3 does suffer from some of these issues but it has more or less cracked the accuracy issue while walking. The sleep tracking and the heart rate monitor are excellently accurate though but for the latter, you need to wear the tracker tightly on your wrist. Jawbone Up3 has a sleek design and the fact that it doesn’t have a display is not that big a challenge. The 7-days battery life is what you get because of this.
How accurate is it?
Accuracy is not a concern with this device but it suffers from the same lags like the other fitness trackers that are worn on the wrist. If you want your heart rate to be monitored, ensure that you tie the strap on your wrist compactly. However, due to the design of the strap, wearing the device tightly doesn’t cause you any irritation. The sleep tracking is fairly accurate too.
How long does it take to charge it?
An hour and a half and your Jawbone Up3 will be fully charged. And then you can forget about charging it for a week.
How long does the battery last?
When using Jawbone Up3, you shouldn’t need to worry about the battery life. Charge the 38mAh battery once and it will last you for up to a week. This is largely possible due to the fact that this device doesn’t have a display.
Is it waterproof?
Jawbone Up3 is a splash-proof device, which means that you can take it shower, use it while running in the rain or while washing the dishes. However, you cannot dip it in water.
Conclusion: Should I buy it ?
Jawbone Up3 should be your choice primarily because of two reasons – the smart coach and the extensive range of third-party apps available with this device. The clasp on the strap has been improved but could prove to be a tricky at times when you want to wear it fast. The design is rather sleek and looks good on your wrist. The lack of display is something that may dismay you to an extent. However, in terms of accuracy, Up3 is right there with the best.
