Netgear D7000 Review

The Netgear D7000 offers top of the range USB network performance, comes with a sleek design and a front mounted USB port. It’s also arguably the fastest peak throughput on the market right now. However, with rivals such as the Asus RT-AC68U and Linksys EA6900 leading the market right now, the Netgear D7000 might have a hard time trying to blend in. Let’s find out how it stacks against its competition.

The Netgear D7000 might be the first router from the company to come with a bit of swagger given its fancy name and design. The Netgear D7000 night hawk does not only impress in the design and its fancy name but also takes care of business as I learned. Although it is superb in terms of performance and has a fancy design, there are a few things that you ought to consider before purchasing the Netgear D7000.

Given its retail price, it’s easier to give it an edge over its direct rival and similarly priced Asus RT-AC68U. It gets its praise in terms of speed from 11 different speed tests. In the 11 tests, it was able to beat the Asus RT-AC68U in 8 of them. The other three tests that failed are distance related and so if you are looking for a router that needs to be used from a long distance, then consider the AC-68U in place of the Netgear D7000 night hawk.

During the speed tests, the Linksys EA6900 was closer to the Netgear D7000 nighthawk where it was capable of going neck to neck with the Netgear D7000 night hawk although eventually the nighthawk takes the title home. However, the range issue arises again as the Linksys EA6900 still manages to beat the Netgear D7000 and where the Nighthawk wins, the scores are pretty close. Moreover, the AC1900 models are known for their speed and so when it comes to these kinds of tests, the other factors come into play and that’s why the Linksys EA6900 find it’s victory.

The mains selling points for the EA6900 is its easy set up and the optional cloud platform for anyone interested in remote access. Moreover, the pricing was well thought out and this makes it an easy favorite for any potential customers. However, the Netgear D7000 nighthawk can easily counter these with its excellent USB performance. For many who would prefer using USB storage for their routers, this would be an added advantage. However, the EA6900 still takes the day due to its well rounded package but there is still room for the nighthawk to catch up.

At the end of the day, you will need to make a decision and the Netgear D7000 is not a bad idea after all given its merits. Its USB performance plays a major role in making it a superb overall router and moreover, it boasts of the fastest peak throughput seen on a router. Nevertheless, the Asus RT-AC68U and Linksys EA6900 are the closest rivals and offer something to think about.
