Nokia 7 Plus Review
The 3-Minute Nokia 7 plus Review
Plus Sized Nokia Goodness
By Graeme Messina | September 6, 2018
The Specifics:
Features & Design: 4/5 ● Performance: 4/5 ● Value: 4/5 ● Sound Quality 4/5
The Best:
Nokia is back, and they have created some excellent handsets. The Nokia 7 Plus is a 6 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen device that is packed with features. It is constructed with aluminium and glass, with distinctive copper edges that make the device really stand out.
The Bugs:
The CPU can feel a little sluggish at times, even though it is mid ranged and not entry level. The camera can be a little lacklustre in low lighting conditions, which is to be expected in this price point, so there aren’t too many surprises there.
Is it for you?
Nokia fans would have loved for the company to have come to market with an Android phone like this many years ago, and to be honest not much has changed. Nokia still make great phones that feel like they have been designed with the end user in mind. If you are a Nokia fan, then this device could fit in with your requirements quite nicely.
Meet the Nokia 7 Plus
This is not a flagship device, as the pricing suggests, so users shouldn’t expect a rocket of a smartphone in the speed department. What they can expect though is a solid device that finds a reasonable balance between good looks and functionality. There are no weird, proprietary Android skins or anything like that, which makes for a much simpler user experience.
What we like
Battery life is good, the camera is decent in most standard lighting conditions that don’t require external lighting, and the OS is intuitive and easy to use. When you combine that with the great build quality, good size, and Nokia styling, you have a smart phone that appeals to most standard users.
The resolution comes in at 1080 x 2160, which although is not earth shatteringly detailed, is around what you should expect for a phone in this segment of the market. Internal storage is 64GB, with the option to install expanded storage in the second SIM slot, maxing out at 256GB.
Memory that ships with this unit is 4GB, which is pretty standard by Android standards, and should be more than enough for users that don’t plan on doing too many memory intensive operations. Gaming on this device is possible, thanks to the Adreno 512, but it was not designed with this in mind primarily.
What we don’t like
The screen feels like it could be a little punchier, but it probably won’t matter to you if you aren’t consuming an awful lot of online video streaming content, or gaming too much. The processor is not bad either, it just seems to lack speediness in some applications.
But for everyday applications it seems to function just fine. This could have perhaps been alleviated by including a little more RAM, but as this is a medium to high end offering it wouldn’t make sense to pack it with flagship levels of memory.
Should you buy it?
If you are looking for a dual camera smart phone that looks like a flagship phone, but doesn’t necessarily need to perform like one, then this could be a great choice for you. As is the case with most Nokia phones, the picture quality of the dual cameras is really good, the battery life is decent, and the Android software that it ships with all come together to create a phone that does what it needs to do.
