Samsung Galaxy J5 Review
Samsung galaxy J5 was launched in June of 2015 in the mid-range price bracket. Packed with amazing specifications and at a surprisingly affordable price, it was not long before it created a buzz in the market. Unlike its predecessor the Galaxy J1 which was considered a grossly overpriced low quality phone, the J5 brought to the table good smart phone features at a pocket friendly price, making it a worthy competitor in the race for the most affordable smart phone in the market.
Some of its features are a 5 inch touch screen with a resolutions of 720 by 1280 pixels, a 13 megapixel main camera and a 5MP front camera whose ability to take superb self-portraits is boosted by the presence of a front camera flash. It has an internal storage capacity of 8 gigabytes, with a provision of expanding the memory capacity up to 128GB thanks to the micro SD slot. The RAM is 1.5 GB and the processor runs at a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It allows for a number of connectivity options common among most smart phones. These include: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, two micro SIM card slots that can support both 3G as well as 4G, a 3.5mm audio jack port for headphones and GPS locating. It also has a removable battery at the back with a capacity of 2600mAh. It is run on Android’s 5.1 operating system which is boosted by Samsung’s new TouchWiz UX.
On the outside, its design is typical of most Samsung phones, with the rounded edges, same body colour, metal bezels and the soft plastic rear cover. It however has a body with a relatively bigger thickness than most high range Samsung phones, giving it a bulkier, less luxurious look. The advantage of this though, is that, unlike these other svelte phones, it is less likely to slip from your hand. At the front, on the screen, you have your usual home and back keys. These however, do not have a back light.
The 5 inch touch screen is an AMOLED display with good colour contrast and blacks, and HD resolution. The screen does not have gorilla glass and can easily break if dropped. While this is not much if compared to the high end smartphones in the market, it is more than most phones its price range have to offer so we cannot complain much. One design failure with the display that is hard to miss and that is worth mentioning is the lack of an auto-brightness adjusting option in the settings menu. As a result, one has to do the adjusting manually.
As mentioned earlier, Samsung Galaxy J5’s operating system is Android Lollipop 5.1. This, together with the 64 bit quad core processor and the Adreno 306 guarantee a faster and smoother operating speed with minimum lagging. The TouchWix UX also found in Samsung’s S series is a big plus and greatly boosts the performance and functionality of the Galaxy J5.
Samsung J5 is no doubt one of the best low end smart phones in the market, from the hardware specifications to the software features and is definitely giving Lenovo and Xiaomi and other low end smart phone makers a run for their money.
