Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Review
The 3-Minute Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Review
Samsung’s Fabulous Flagship Fablet
By Graeme Messina | September 25, 2018
Features & Design: 4.5/5 ● Performance: 4.5/5 ● Value: 4.5/5 ● Sound Quality 4.5/5
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is Samsungs latest flagship device, measuring in at a whopping 6.4 inches, equipped with Samsung’s very own Infinity Display. It has a fabulous camera, with decent low light capabilities. The battery is really good and lasts nicely with moderate to heavy use, and comes with decent storage as well.
The Note range of Samsung has always been pricey, so that is a draw back with this device, but it is in line with other flagships from rivals like Apple’s XS Max model that launched recently, and is more expensive than the Samsung. There is also a distinct lack of HDR video calling, as well as a slightly annoyingly placed Bixby button.
Is it for you?
If you enjoy a massive screen for your devices, such as the 6.4 inches provided by Samsung, as well as a huge 4,000mAh battery, as well as a maximum of 1TB for storage. Samsung is certainly not pulling its punches with this release. As with previous notes, the stylus has received a lot of attention, allowing it to add unique functionality to your mobile device.
Meet the Samsung Note 9
The lines are becoming more blurred as time passes as to which type of device the average smartphone user needs. This is because Samsung currently offers flagship phones in 3 different sizes. The Samsung Galaxy S9, S9 Plus, and now, the Note 9. This gives people with all sizes of hands the opportunity to find the right device for them.
What we like
The main camera is amazing, coming in at 12MP for the main camera which is 26mm for the wide camera, and 12MP for the second camera on the back which is the telephoto sensor, and it measures at 52mm .
The phone itself is stylishly designed and very well built. The phone is entirely surrounded by glass, which is Gorilla Glass 5, which is wrapped around an aluminium frame. The touchscreen is 16M colours and is a Super AMOLED. The PPI is insane, measuring in at 516, which is excellent for a screen ratio of 18.5:9. Max resolution is 1440x2950, which again, is amazing for a device of this size.
The CPU, RAM and storage options on this device are very good indeed, making easy work of daily tasks such as playing movies, listening to music, and browsing the internet while other applications run in the background. The device comes in 8GB and 6GB flavours, making it extremely responsive.
What we don’t like
Some people might have a problem with some common quirks that have been rearing their ugly head in the past few years: and that is the full glass treatment. Phones today are all falling into this category, making them fingerprint magnets with smudges.
The stylus feels like a missed opportunity for further features to have been added, but having said that, it is still very usable. The selfie cam is “only” 8MP, which, depending on the frequency with which you take selfies, may be a problem.
Should you buy it?
If you are in the market for a new plus sized smart device, then yes, this is an amazing option. It features a beautifully designed outer case, if you can get past the fingerprints and smudges, an amazingly clear and crisp Super OLED display, and an amazing battery.
