Xiaomi Mi Pad Review
Xiaomi Mi Pad is packed with features including a large screen with 2048x1536 resolution, Atom X5 Z8500 chipset with 2Gb DDRL3 RAM and 16Gb / 64Gb storage. The performance is solid and the audio can get really loud. The video quality is average and the images are more or less crisp. The connectivity is fast and reliable and the MIUI 7 user interface is smooth and easy to navigate through.
Xiaomi has taken the smartphone world by storm and now wants to penetrate the tablet market with its Xiaomi Mi Pad. Xiaomi has parted ways with the NVidia chipset (which was there in the previous versions of this tablet) and opted for the Atom X5 Z8500 chipset. This move has been made keeping in mind that Xiaomi plans to launch a Windows version of this tablet with dual OS, something NVidia cannot do for it. Among other changes, the rear housing component has been changed to metal and the body has been made 1mm slimmer.
What is the sound quality?
The sound from the rear speakers is loud and you also get that hint of bass. However, when you crank up the sound really loud, there is some bit of distortion and the clarity gets a little muffled. While gaming, you get one of the best sound experiences in a tablet. But you will be happy with the fact that speakers are loud because you can hear a lot of loud audio without going to the max level.
What are its features?
Xiaomi Mi Pad has a lot of good features – the movement to Atom X5 Z8500 chipset has been a fine strategical move from Xiaomi. The 2Gb DDRL3 RAM and 16Gb / 64Gb storage ensure that the responsiveness of this tablet is impressive. The screen resolution is 2048x1536 with high 324 ppi and the result is sharper images and videos. The IPS screen is fully laminated and this is also a welcome touch to this tablet. The viewing angles are good with deep black and high contrast ratio. Instead of USB 2.0, you get USB 3.0 Type-C in this tablet. The custom MIUI 7 is smooth and it is a skin on top of Android 5.1. When gaming, the temperature does rise but not abnormally. There are two cameras in this tablet – an 8Mp rear camera and a 5Mp front camera. The image quality is ok but nothing special. Video recording is at 720p and this is somewhat of a disappointment.
Conclusion: Should I buy it?
Xiaomi Mi Pad is not the perfect tablet but offers superb value for money. It is easy to work on and works wonderfully well as a portable entertainment unit. The screen is good and the performance is really reliable and consistent. It can handle some of the most high-end mobile games with ease. Some people compare it with iPad Mini – while this tablet is not that polished, you need to keep in mind that costs half of iPad Mini.
